Incident at Exxon Mobil Olefins Plant


About 5:53 P.M., the Baytown City officials scrambled and met in the City Hall after getting word of an incident at Olefings Plant. The city council was having a work session when a loud pop was heard throughout the city. The pop is describing to sound like a gunshot. The city of Baytown quickly sent out a tweet after the briefing of City officials.

The CAER released a statement at 5:45 P.M. and said; “This is a message from Exxon Mobil Baytown Olefins Plant located at 3525 Decker Drive, Baytown Texas 77522. We are having a operational issue at our facility resulting in safety flaring and noise. There is no cause for community concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience the safety flaring may cause our neighbors.”



You were able to see the flares from certain spots on Garth Road, Market Street, and Decker Drive. The Plant needed to urgently release the vapors to prevent an explosion. No injuries were reported during the incident.
