District 08 and various downtown area crews were dispatched to 900 Block of Main St. on October 17, 2019, to a building fire that contained heavy smoke. Crews began an offensive attack. The source of the fire was difficult to locate due to very low visibility and heavy smoke inside the building. There was a mayday situation in which one firefighter was transported due to heat exhaustion. A second mayday situation transitioned crews to a defensive attack. All firefighters were safely evacuated from the building and the fire was controlled with exterior master streams and handlines.
Due to the complexity of the incident, crews were left on location until October 19, 2019, to monitor the situation until the fire was ruled under control.
HFD Crews assisted restoration with companies and contractors on various issues caused by the fire. The cause is still under investigation
