BAYTOWN - City Council approved a proposed resolution that renames Civic Drive and Civic Circle to Velma Ansley Circle in honor of the first female council member of the City of Baytown who served from 1960-1964.
Civic Drive is located on the grounds of the City Hall and the Community Center. The proposed resolution is the result of a request by Council Member Betancourth to rename said drive to Velma Ansley Circle, which honors a pioneer who helped pave the way for women in public service in Baytown.
The city will hold a ceremony to commemorate said change on March 6th, just prior to International Women's Day on Sunday, March 8th.
