On February 24, 2020, at 7:18 am, Baytown Fire Department crews responded to a motor vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler that slid through the guardrail on Highway 146 and down an embankment onto the frontage road. Approximately 100-gallons of diesel leaked from the truck’s fuel tank on Lanier (146 frontage) just before West Main. BFD crews worked to contain the spill and prevent it from entering Goose Creek. Heavy rain made the situation difficult but extensive damming and diking were successful. The BFD hazmat team tapped and then offloaded approximately 30-gallons of diesel that remained in the truck’s tanks before it could leak out. The driver was uninjured and aside from the fuel leak, there were no hazardous materials present.
