Two American soldiers killed in Afghanistan identified


The two U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan on Saturday have been identified by the U.S. Department of Defense.





Sgt. 1st Class Javier Jaguar Gutierrez, 28, of San Antonio, Texas and Sgt. 1st Class Antonio Rey Rodriguez, 28, of Las Cruces, New Mexico were both posthumously promoted, according to a news release from the DoD.





Both soldiers were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at the Englin Air Force Base in the Florida panhandle.





Gutierrez and Rodriguez were both died in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan due to combat wounds, the department says. The soldiers were part of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.





The incident is under investigation.
