Upcoming School Year so far stays where it is for now

BAYTOWN, TX - Since COVID-19 sent a virus-wave throughout Harris County, I confronted the school district about the upcoming school year, and asked, What is on the table for discussions and considerations for the upcoming school year?

The last school year ended with homeschooling the district students via online or paper packets. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) continues to work with the Office of the Governor, Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to coordinate and plan the state’s response to COVID-19. TEA’s role in these efforts is to help coordinate the flow of information from the state to districts, help districts solve problems, and provide guidance that will aid in districts’ decision-making. TEA does not have the general authority to close schools for matters related to health. This authority lies with the local health authority, DSHS, and the Governor of Texas.

School Board member Loredo said; "It staying where it is. Things changing day to day to really give a clear answer. More information on Monday at the school board meeting," She continued; "We have several ideas, but we’re taking one thing at a time and waiting for a little more guidance. It is still early, and we want to make the best decisions for our students and staff."

The GCCISD spokesperson said; "A decision is not made," when questioned about any changes the upcoming school year due to the COVID-19.

This is a developing story, I will report any updates as this story breaks out.
