City Council Authorized an Interlocal Agreement with the Baytown Municipal Development District for the operation of the Ice Rink at Town Square


City Council authorized the interlocal agreement with the Baytown Municipal Development District (MDD) for expenditures of up to $100,000 for the operation of the Ice Rink at Town Square.





The City will be operating the ice rink from Thanksgiving until early January.  The requested amount will pay for the annual cost of the rental of a chiller unit (approximately $40,000) and $25,000 for barricades, crane rental, and miscellaneous infrastructure needed for the operations of the rink.  An additional $35,000 is being requested in the budget for necessary repairs to the ice rink tubing if needed.





The Ice Rink hosted 4,386 citizens and guest to Town Square during the 2019 – 2020 season.  The rink was open from November 29th to January 11th following Snow Day. The rink was closed for 6 days due to weather and ice conditions and for two holidays.  The rink was open for 35 days total.





The revenue for the 2019 – 2020 season was $42,349.  Actual staffing cost was $47,754.21. 





The rink is planned to open for the 2020 – 2021 season on November 27th.  Funding for this project will be available October 1, 2020.






The MDD Board approved the funding at its meeting held on September 3, 2020.
