Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the apparent accidental shooting of a juvenile male at 4510 Hershe Street about 12 a.m. on Saturday (June 12).
The suspect, Jesus A. Reynaga (H/m, 40), is charged with felony injury to a child in the 209th State District Court.
The victim, 9 years old, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers B. Godoy and A. Graf reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a hospital follow-up investigation regarding a juvenile shot in the chest. Officers learned the shooting occurred at a residence at the above address.
Further investigation and witness statements determined Reynaga, the juvenile's father, attempted to take apart his weapon in a reckless manner near where children were playing when he accidentally shot his son. Reynaga was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
