City of Houston Office of Emergency Management strengthens public engagement with new additions to the team
HOUSTON - Recently appointed Director of the Office of Emergency Management Thomas Munoz and Emergency Manager/Public Information Officer Allison B. Hudson, seeks to increase public engagement and make the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) a household name for all residents in need of preparedness and emergency information. The OEM oversees public safety and assists Houston residents 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, through hosting preparedness material on HoustonOEM.org and sharing real-time emergency updates on HoustonEmergency.org and other social media platforms. Munoz seeks to elevate Houston’s readiness by making community outreach a priority for OEM. Munoz will increase efforts to have in-person interactions with residents of Houston. In-person outreach events had gone on temporary pause due to COVID-19. Over the last year, OEM has continued to prepare the public through sharing the Disaster Preparedness Guide with residents and community partners and participating in media interviews. OEM is excited to reengage in one-of-kind in-person community interactions when safe to do so. Hudson joins OEM to continue providing crucial information to the residents and neighborhoods of Houston. “I am excited to start a comprehensive and inclusive culture within OEM. I look forward to working with the OEM team such that all OEM staff can be office representatives and have one-on-one interactions with residents.” Hudson’s unique experience includes over 14 years in communications and the past ten years in law enforcement. Her expertise within media is public relations, editing, marketing, graphic design and writing. Hudson is a 2008 graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with a concentration in print journalism and a minor in speech/communication studies. “Allison will be developing and implementing an overall strategy, directly engaging and managing outreach to all sectors of Houston – residents, businesses, community organizations,” said Director Munoz. “OEM is heading in the direction where residents can expect us to create meaningful preparedness interactions outside times of need or disaster,” he added. Residents are encouraged to request a community presentation or Disaster Preparedness Guides and to also like us on Facebook, follow us on twitter, and follow updates on our page on Nextdoor.
