Houston Firefighters arrived at the Harmony House located at the 600 block of Girard on October 12, 2021, at 8:21 a.m. within five minutes to find a shelter on fire and began extinguishment efforts and conducted a primary search. Crews ventilated the roof and checked the utilities and structural stability.
Due to the type of occupancy, several additional units including EMS were requested. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with burns to his ears. Firefighters extinguished the fire and requested HFD Arson investigators to determine the cause and origin. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the approximately 80 displaced residents. Crews from Stations 8, 12, 17, 15, 6, 9, 19, and 30 responded to this incident.
The cause of the fire is Under Investigation.
