UPDATE: Social Media Giants Went Down on Monday

UPDATE: Facebook said on Monday that a global outage that took its services and internal communications tools offline for several hours was due to a "faulty configuration change" to its routers. It said apps are now back online after the hours-long worldwide outage that also affected Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus.

I don't know but this had to be a planned outage from Twitter and Facebook. Facebook and Twitter on the same day pretty much at the same time went offline. Facebook confirmed on Monday that users worldwide reported issues accessing applications owned by the company, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. Facebook said it is looking into the issue and apologized for the inconvenience. The cause for the outages was not immediately confirmed. Facebook said in a statement; “ we were aware that some people are having trouble accessing the Facebook app” and it was working on restoring access. "The company did not say what might be causing the outage, which began around 11:45 ET. It is normal for websites and apps to suffer outages, though one on a global scale is rare. Users reported being unable to access Facebook in California, New York, and Europe." An unconfirmed report from a third-party source said that "Facebook was having DNS Networking Issues."

Now around 5:24 p.m., on Monday, October 4, 2021, I attempted to update the NNB News pages with stories for the day, and we were not able to post as of yet, because Facebook was still going crazy. About 5:55 p.m., we were able to post on the NNB News Facebook page. Now Twitter also had a confirmed outage.

Crazy day for Social Media!
