Saritha Komatireddy of New York, to serve as Judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
 
Saritha Komatireddy is Deputy Chief of General Crimes in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.  She has also served as Acting Deputy Chief of International Narcotics and Money Laundering, and as the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Coordinator for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.  Ms. Komatireddy also previously served as Counsel to the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, and was in private practice at Kellogg, Hansen, Todd, Figel & Frederick, PLLC.  Ms. Komatireddy is a Lecturer in Law at Columbia Law School and previously taught at George Washington University Law School.  Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Komatireddy served as a law clerk to then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.  Ms. Komatireddy earned her B.A., cum laude, from Harvard University and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where she served on the Harvard Law Review.

Tyreece Miller is the Deputy Chief–Commander of Police Patrol Operations in the Jackson Tennessee Police Department, where he has served for more than 22 years.  Mr. Miller began his career with the Jackson Police Department in 1997 and held various positions before assuming his current role, including Investigator, Sergeant, Captain of the Criminal Investigation Division, and Deputy Chief-Commander of the Investigative Services Bureau.  Before his law enforcement career, Mr. Miller served in the United States Marine Corps.  Mr. Miller earned his B.S. from Bethel University.

Today, President Donald J. Trump signed S. 153, the Supporting Veterans in STEM Careers Act, into law.  The Act encourages the participation of veterans in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields, including by making veterans eligible for certain National Science Foundation (NSF) programs.

The Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) will establish an interagency working group to coordinate federal programs and policies for transitioning and training veterans and military spouses for STEM careers.

On December 18, 2019, the Senate passed S. 153 by unanimous consent.  On January 27, 2020, the House passed the Senate-passed bill without amendment by voice vote.

President Donald J. Trump spoke with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey.  The two leaders discussed the need to eliminate foreign interference and maintain the ceasefire in Libya.  The leaders agreed that the violence being carried out in Idlib, Syria must stop.  President Trump also highlighted the importance of Turkey and Greece resolving their disagreements in the eastern Mediterranean.

President Donald J. Trump Approves North Dakota Disaster Declaration

Today, President Donald J. Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of North Dakota and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by flooding from October 9 to October 26, 2019.
 
Federal funding is available to State, tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by flooding in the counties of Barnes, Eddy, Foster, Grand Forks, Griggs, Kidder, LaMoure, Logan, Mountrail, Nelson, Sargent, Sheridan, Stutsman, Traill, Walsh, and Wells.
 
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
 
Pete Gaynor, Administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, named Dana C. Reynolds as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected areas. 
 
Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.

The POTUS and PM Khan met and agreed on a political settlement

Today, President Donald J. Trump met with Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan.  The two leaders agreed to continue efforts to seek a lasting political settlement in Afghanistan that would bring peace and ensure terrorists can no longer operate from the country.  They also discussed ways to expand trade between the United States and Pakistan, and other bilateral and regional issues.
