3 Alarm Apartment Fire in The Golfcrest / Bellfort / Reveille Area

Firefighters arrived at the block of 8200 Broadway Street on February 24, 2020, at 5:50 p.m., with no smoke or fire visible from a 3-story apartment building. Residents directed them to the reported unit which had smoke-stained windows and crews immediately began a fire attack and primary search. Firefighters reported heavy smoke on the second floor and worked to evacuate the residents from the building. The crew of Ladder 55 made a successful rescue from a balcony and multiple other residents were safely evacuated.

Due to the rising heat and inability to advance the hand line the crews were ordered to exit the apartment. One firefighter became temporally lost from his crew and a Mayday was called. He was quickly located with no injuries. Crews re-entered the apartment and worked to extinguish the fire while ventilating the unit and checking for extension. Fans were used to ventilate the smoke from the third floor as well. 

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents. Three apartment units were impacted by fire and about 34 other units had the power disconnected. One firefighter was pinned between a fire truck and a district chief vehicle (usually an SUV or pickup). He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries including thigh pain and has been released from the hospital. 

Firefighters from Stations 40, 20, 23, 2, 19, 8, 23, 26, 29, 46, 18, 70, 35, 52, 61, Rescue 42, Hazmat, 55, 37 and 33 responded to this incident.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office and Crime Stoppers need the public’s assistance in providing any information regarding a fire that occurred on Jan. 10 at approximately 3:00 a.m. Investigators with the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office were dispatched to an apartment fire located at the leasing office of The Palms at Cypress Station Apartments located in the 990 block of Cypress Station Drive. Investigators determined that two individuals broke into the leasing office and used an ignitable liquid to set a fire inside the building.
