Palacios Arrested and Charged in Fatal Crash at 7000 Airline Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 7000 Airline Drive about 7:25 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 19).

The suspect, Sergio Noe Palacios (H/m, 20), is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 182nd State District Court.  A booking photo of Palacios is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 31, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Warhol and Officer M. Burton reported:

A blue GMC pickup truck was travelling northbound on Airline Drive as a vehicle was braking due to a pedestrian (victim) crossing the street in a crosswalk.  The driver of the GMC changed lanes, accelerated through the intersection and struck the pedestrian.  The driver then fled the scene without rendering aid.  Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. 

A witness travelling behind the suspect's vehicle followed the truck and observed its bumper and license plate fall to the ground.  North Division patrol officers were advised, canvassed the area and located the suspect and the truck.  The suspect, identified as Palacios, was transported to jail and subsequently charged.    

Two people were killed Friday morning in a major crash in northeast Harris County

Around 6 a.m. in the 15400 block of Old Humble Road, just north of Beltway 8, two people were killed Friday morning in a major crash in northeast Harris County that may have been caused by a lost load of cement in the road, authorities said. One of the vehicles involved was northbound on Old Humble Road when it swerved to avoid spilled cement in the road, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The northbound vehicle ended up in the southbound lanes when it collided with another vehicle.

The roadway will remain closed as deputies investigate the crash, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Investigation into Fatal Crash at 7600 East Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 7600 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 12).

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer T. Riley reported:

Officers responded to a public lewdness call involving a male at a restaurant at 1700 North Wayside Drive.  As officers approached the male, he fled on foot southbound toward the East Freeway.  One officer attempted to pursue the male, but stopped before reaching the freeway. 

The male ran across the westbound lanes, crossed the concrete median and then began to run across the eastbound lanes.  At that time, he was struck by an 18-wheeler and a second vehicle.  Paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.  The two drivers stopped, showed no signs of intoxication and were questioned and released.  The investigation is continuing.

Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 6200 Gulf Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 6200 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 7:20 p.m. last Friday (Jan. 31).

The suspect, Eliana Blu Morin (H/f, 19), is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 177th State District Court.  A booking photo of Morin is attached to this news release.

The identity of the deceased male, 38, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer C. Dinh reported:

The victim, a pedestrian, was running across the southbound lanes of the service road at the above address when he was struck by a black Chevrolet HHR.  The driver, Morin, fled the scene and returned about 15 to 30 minutes later.  She was arrested and subsequently charged. 

Paramedics transported the victim to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

It was learned the male was possibly fleeing a scene where he was involved in a disturbance/assault of a female.

The investigation is continuing.

Diawannah Thomas charged with aggravated assault of a police officer and murder

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 500 North Loop West (North Interstate Highway  610 West) about 1:10 a.m. today (January 21).  

The suspect, Diawannah Thomas, 54, is charged with aggravated assault of a police officer and murder in the 208th State District Court.  She is also charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #7   

The identity of the deceased male suspect, 40, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer O. Bledsoe reported:  

HPD North Patrol Division officers responded to a burglary-in-progress call and saw the suspect vehicle, a white Ford E-450 truck driven by Thomas, and initiated a vehicle pursuit.  One of the suspects, a male, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.  A second male suspect attempted to exit the vehicle, however, the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed and he only managed to hold on to the vehicle.  

The suspect vehicle continued to evade police westbound on the North Loop West service road.  As the vehicle approached the intersection of North Main, the male suspect lost his grip, fell from the truck and was struck by the vehicle.  Thomas continued to evade police and intentionally struck an HPD two-man patrol vehicle in the 4800 block of Oak Forest.  Neither officer was injured in that crash.  The pursuit ended at the intersection of North Shepherd and Parker Road.  Thomas was taken into custody without further incident.  She was determined to be under the influence of an unknown substance and was subsequently charged for her role in the crash.
