The City Council recently approved last Thursday the LED Streetlight replacement agreement with CenterPoint. This will take between 12 to 18 months to complete the project. The current streetlights have; mercury vapor, metal halide, and high pressure sodium. Over the years though-out the city, we have a myriad of different luminaire types installed.
There is no upfront cost and will begin within the three months after the completion of the agreement. Now, there are fees and it does range from $3.53 to $20.54 monthly charge depending on the type and size of the pole, and the wattage of the light.
CenterPoint may request recovery of the capital and expenses associated with the project through either a distribution capital recovery factor application or other rate preceding. The replacement project will generate energy savings of approximately 170,0000 kilowatts per month, which is equivalent to the energy usage of approximately 190 homes for one month or over 2000 homes in one year.
The other cities that have signed, been converted, or are in the process of conversion are: Sugarland, Manvel, South Houston, Galveston, El Lago, Beach City, Pasadena, and Houston.
