The Port of Houston brought in Remote Crane Operations that was previously reported in the Navigation. Just recently, 3 cranes highlighted the Navigator as it made its 90-day journey from Shanghai, China arriving at the Port of Houston on August 7, 2018. The cranes highlighted more than $100 million in investments. The cranes standing about 270 feet tall and with a boom length of 211 feet, is the future of the Port operations. With no operator on board and operated via remote, the crane can run faster and ramp times can be shorter, meaning shorter cycle times to unload cargo. The operators of the cranes can supervise the crane motion via views from onboard cameras, which are often more comprehensive than views from inside the crane cabin.
The high demand for remote technology will open more doors for small business operations to quickly get the shipment taken care of in a timely fashion.
