Grand Reopening of the Brunson Theater

A good way to bring in the grand reopening was a classic car show, including an old fire engine.

We interviewed one of the employees that wish to remain anonymous that worked at the Brunson Theater when it first opened and he said; "I'm certainly happy that the theater opened again. I used to work here when I was 16-years-old. I wish it would be a movie theater more than anything else. This movie theater will hold a special place in my heart."

70-years ago on August 23, 1949, the Brunson Theater opened for movie watchers of all ages. The historic icon needed a major makeover. Baytown city council had an idea and put in a lot of money in renovations and now with all the ideals and the allowance of the money spent, on August 23, 2019; the red carpet was laid out and local, state and federal officials and local area citizens gathered in front of the Brunson Theater on Texas Ave and experience the long waited red ribbon cutting.

The mayor didn't want the naysayers to win the battle, because the naysayers said to leave it alone and do nothing with it. The "YES" movement made the opening possible.

A guest appearance in attendance was the Brunsons great-granddaughter and family.

After the ribbon-cutting, the VIP's and all guest was allowed to enter the theater just to look around and eat snack items. What I saw was meatballs of two different flavors, fruit and vegetable tray. Brunson magnets were available for the guest to grab. Also, some guest signed the book to show that they were there to support the Brunson! 

News Now Baytown was able to catch up with Texas House Rep Briscoe Cain, he was happy to see the Bruson open to the public again, and we did ask a question that we hope that will happen in the near future. When will the Brunson Theater become a Texas Historical Landmark? He said, "all someone would need to do is file the paperwork to start the process." So the question remains, will the Brunson become the future candidate to become the next Texas Historical Landmark in the City of Baytown?
