Baytown Officer Transported to a Local Hospital after being rear-ended this morning on the south side of Hartman Bridge

This morning at 9:26 a.m., one of our officers was dispatched to the south bound side of the Hartman Bridge regarding a road hazard. Reports were that there was an expansion joint coming up out of the roadway and vehicles were hitting it. Once on scene our officers activated his emergency lights and positioned his vehicle in the lane of traffic to keep vehicles from hitting the expansion joint while he waited for TXDOT to arrive to address the road damage. While stopped in the lane of traffic with his emergency lights activated, a 2004 Infinite being driven by a 54 year old Baytown woman, rear ended the Police Tahoe. Our officer and the driver of the Infinite were transported by ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for minor, non- life threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was cited for Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and Failure to Control Speed. The accident caused the southbound lanes of 146 to be closed for several hours however they were reopened at approximately 12:00 p.m.
