2 CHARGED WITH A CLASS C ASSAULT- FAMILY VIOLENCE AFTER A FIGHT ON PARK STREET

BAYTOWN - On Sunday, November 15, 2020, around 12:45 p.m., Baytown Police Department responded to a call of service in the 800 block of Park Street.

The law enforcement learned that a black male and female were guest at the hotel and started a verbal and physical altercation. The male stripped the clothing off of the female and took the fight outside in the parking lot.

Before law enforcement arrived, dispatched notified the responding units that the guest took the fight back inside their room.

John Tyrell and Lashonda Rose were arrested and charged with a CLASS C ASSAULT- FAMILY VIOLENCE.

Class C Assault is described in Section 22.01(a)(2) and (3) of the Texas Penal Code.1 The law, current as of 2020, is as follows: (a) A person commits an offense if the person: … (2) intentionally or knowingly threatens another with imminent bodily injury, including the person's spouse; or (3) intentionally or knowingly causes physical contact with another when the person knows or should reasonably believe that the other will regard the contact as offensive or provocative. A conviction for Class C Assault misdemeanor under Texas Law is punishable by a maximum fine of $500. Although the fine is relatively low, the collateral effects of having an assault conviction on your record may have serious severe effects. For instance, many employers and private businesses will exclude people convicted of an assault charge from employment. Class C Assault convictions may also have an impact on your concealed carry permit or ability to own or purchase a firearm.

John and Lashonda had a bond set for $680.00.

Two Arrested After a Disturbance at the Motel 19

On November 9^th at 2:274 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance at the Motel 19 in the 3400 block of North Alexander. Upon arrival officers made contact with a male, identified as 28 year old Brandon Thompson of Baytown, who advised he and his girlfriend, identified as 36 year old Patricia Martin of Baytown, had in fact been in an argument but insisted that Patricia had left the premises. Officers would ultimately locate Patricia hiding in the bathroom and learned that she actually had an outstanding felony warrant out of Harris County for Possession of a Controlled substance. Both Patricia and Brandon were placed under arrest and transported to the Baytown Jail where Patricia was booked on her outstanding warrant and Brandon was booked and charged with Interfering with Public Duties through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for his attempt to hide Patricia. 

Devaun charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle and McCain charged with Misdemeanor Evading on Foot

On November 9^th at 5:19 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of 4^th Street and East Republic. The suspect vehicle failed to stop as the officers activated his emergency lighting and instead attempted to elude the officer. The suspect vehicle continued to flee from the officer, ultimately making his way to the area of Lee and West Nazro, where the vehicle came to a stop and both the driver and passenger fled from the vehicle on foot. Officers pursued the two suspects to a residence in the 1500 block of Yupon, where both were taken into custody. The driver, identified as 17 year old Sasser Devaun, was charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle while the passenger, identified as 18 year old Jamie McCain, was charged with Misdemeanor Evading on Foot. Both were transported to the Baytown Jail where they were booked on those charges.

Woman found Shot to Death Inside Car

On October 28 at approximately 5:22a.m., Baytown Police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Northwood Drive. Upon arrival, officers found 31-year-old Jazmin Garrett, deceased inside her vehicle.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and as they began their investigation they discovered Ms. Garrett had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and appeared to have been sitting in her car at the time of the shooting. The investigation into this senseless murder is ongoing as detectives are actively following up on leads and interviewing
witnesses.

Pursuit in the Craigmont Subdivision

On October 22^nd at 10:19 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Craigmont Subdivision after officers observed the vehicle speeding through the neighborhood and running several stop signs. As the officer activated his emergency lights and siren to initiate the stop, the suspect accelerated and fled from the officers. The suspect made his way to the parking lot the Village Lane Apartment, where he bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers then pursued the suspect on foot as he was running through the complex and appeared to be reaching in his waistband. This resulted in the initial officer, a BPD K-9 Unit, deploying his K-9, who quickly apprehended the suspect, identified as 26 year old Kristopher Smith of Crosby. Smith continued to struggle with K-9 which resulted in one of the officers deploying their Taser, at which time Smith was taken into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of marijuana, suspected Promethazine and Xanax. Smith was transported to Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries after which he was transported to the Baytown Jail and booked on charge of Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle.

Pursuit Started in Highlands and ended in Baytown

 On October 22^nd at 9:00 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Spur 330 and FM 2100 in which the officer recognized the driver as a subject who had an active felony warrant for Continuous Family Violence. When the officer activated his emergency lights to initiate the stop the suspect, identified as 49 year old Gilbert Maiden of Baytown, pulled into the Shell Parking lot in the 100 block of South Main in Highlands. As the officer exited his vehicle and approached the suspect vehicle, the suspect sped off. The officer returned to his vehicle and pursued the suspect vehicle which eventually made its way to Spur 330 inbound, then south on SH 146 where officers attempted to deploy stop sticks, which Maiden swerved and was able to avoid. Maiden exited West Main and in an effort to avoid the traffic stopped at the light, he jumped the curb, which caused some type of mechanical damage to the vehicle. However he continued fleeing west n West Main until he made his way to Civic Drive where the car came to a stop. Maiden immediately exited the suspect vehicle and fled on foot into the woods but was quickly apprehended with the assistance of a BPD K-9 Unit. A female passenger of the vehicle, identified as 35 year old Valerie Welsh of Baytown was found to have outstanding traffic warrants out of LaPorte and was taken into custody as well. Maiden was transported to the Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital to be treated for injuries he sustained during the apprehension and was later transported to the Baytown Jail and charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle. Welsh was released to LaPorte Police Department.

BPD Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Roseland Park

On October 17^th at 4:38 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Roseland Park. Responding officers heard additional shots being fired from the area of Tri-City Beach and Hwy 99. Officer located a vehicle parked under the bridge, unoccupied. Officers then followed a path into the woods and came upon four males standing around a vehicle with the smell of marijuana in the air and several weapons, two rifles and two pistols, near the Jeep. All four suspects were detained while officers continued their investigation. During that investigation, officers learned that one of the weapons had the serial numbers obliterated.  All subjects, identified below, were transported to the Baytown Jail where they were charged with the following: 

Jasmine Hughey of Baytown Booked and Charge with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle and Driving While Intoxicated

 On October 18^th at 7:52 p.m., officers were dispatched do the area of Bayou Drive and East Texas Avenue in reference to an accident in which a silver passenger car struck several mail boxes, nearly struck a pedestrian then fled the scene. As officers arrived in the area they spotted the suspect vehicle in the 100 block of Bayou, with the side airbags deployed and damage to the driver side of the vehicle. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle, however the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued to flee from officers until crashing into a stop sign at the intersection of Ward Road and Manor Drive. After crashing the vehicle the driver, identified as 29 year old Jasmine Hughey of Baytown, exited the vehicle and began to walk away, initially ignoring officer’s commands but then complied and was taken into custody. Ms. Hughey was subsequently transported to the Baytown Jail where she was booked and charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle and Driving While Intoxicated.

Brandon Evans of Baytown Arrested on a Warrant and also a Failure to Identify

On October 16^th at 9:23 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 100 block of South Alexander. Upon stopping the vehicle officers contacted the driver and the passenger of the vehicle and during the interaction the passenger provided a name that officers determined was fictitious. When confronted with this, the passenger gave another name, which officers quickly determined was also false. Officers were subsequently able to identify the passenger, through finger prints, as 45 year old Brandon Evans of Baytown, who was found to have an active Parole Warrant. Mr. Evans was placed under arrest and transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked on the warrant as well as a fresh charge of Failure to Identify through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. 

Motorcycle Pursuit in Baytown

On October 15^th at 4:49 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Blue Suzuki motorcycle in  the area of North Alexander and State Highway146. As the officer activated his emergency lights to initiate the stop, the operator of the motorcycle, accelerated to a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic in an obvious attempt to elude the officer. The officer engaged in a pursuit of the motorcycle, while broadcasting the description of the motorcycle and the operator. The officer quickly determined to continue the pursuit was dangerous to the other motorists on the road as well as the operator of the motorcycle, therefore the officer disengaged the pursuit in hopes that the motorcycle operator would slow down, an no longer put other motorists at risk. A short time later a plain clothes detective in an unmarked vehicle spotted the motorcycle going over the Hartman Bridge and followed it as the motorcycle was now driving with the flow of traffic, apparently assuming he had successfully eluded the police. The detective followed the motorcycle until it came to a stop a the Dollar General in the 1200 block of Broadway in Laporte. At that time the operator of the motorcycle, identified as 21 year old Kaiden Auzenne of Baytown, was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Auzenne advised officers the reason he fled was due to the fact he did not have a motorcycle license. Mr. Auzenne was transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked and charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. 

Evan Williams of Baytown was charged with Assault on a Public Servant through the Harris County DA Office

 On October 14^th at 11:55 a.m., officers responded to a report of an intoxicated subject at the Valero in the 6000 block of Interstate 10. Upon arrival officers found the subject, identified as 21 year old Evan Williams of Baytown, laying on the ground in front of the store, wrapped in a blanket. When officers contacted Williams he immediately became belligerent with the officers, shouting obscenities and displaying increasingly aggressive behavior. Williams appeared to be reaching for something under his blanket at which time the officer attempted to stop him. Williams continued to be defiant and refused to comply with the officers commands. The officer then attempted to detain Williams, however Williams continued to struggle with the officer as the officer was placing handcuffs on him. Once the officer had the handcuffs on Williams, the officer attempted to lock the cuffs, which prevents the cuffs from tightening on the suspect, and as he was doing so Williams intentionally manipulated his hands in an apparent effort to injure the officer. The result was one of the officers fingers getting caught in the handcuffs and being twisted, nearly breaking the officer’s finger. The officer was ultimately able to take Williams to the ground and release his finger.  During the struggle Williams struck his head on the ground and suffered a laceration to his eyebrow area. Both the officer and Williams were evaluated and treated on scene by EMS after which, Williams was transported to the Baytown Jail where he was charged with Assault on a Public Servant through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. 

BPD Responded to a Physical Altercation in the 600 block of Willow

On October 14^th at 10:25 a.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 600 block of Willow. Upon arrival, officers learned that there was a physical altercation between the husband and wife, during which the wife’s brother intervened. As a result the brother and the husband also got into a physical altercation, which led to the husband throwing cinder blocks through the windows on the residence. None of the parties involved wished to pursue charges, the husband left prior to the officer's arrival, and the wife left with friends.

Body Found after Man Jump the Fred Hartman Bridge

BAYTOWN - On October 12, 2020, multiple agencies were called into a reference to a male walking on the 2.6-mile Fred Hartman Bridge.

When law enforcement agencies were arriving, an officer saw the male grabbing ahold of the rails of the bridge. 

A few moments later, the male jumped the bridge and was seen by the Baytown Police and the Harris County Constable Precinct 8 officers.

The Baytown Fire Department assisted with the additional agencies for the water search and rescue efforts to retrieve the body in the Houston Ship Channel. The officials were able to retrieve the body.

NNB News contacted the Harris County Constable Precinct 8 office but they have declined to comment regarding the incident at the time of this publication. La Porte Police Department and the Baytown Police Department assisted with traffic control. 

3 Transported to Area Hospitals after Shots Fired on Northwood

On October 5^th at 2:18 a.m., officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1200 block of Northwood. Upon arrival officers learned that four males were standing outside in the 1200 block of Northwood Drive when unknown subjects fired several rounds in their direction, possibly from a dark colored passenger car. In the incident, three of the males ages 19, 21 and 16,  were struck in their lower extremities and subsequently transported to area hospitals to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Detectives are investigating.

BPD Responded to a Reckless Driver that ended up in a Pursuit and BPD used a Taser

 On October 8^th at 6:00 p.m., officers responded to a reckless driver call in the area of Highway 146 and FM 565 in which one of our off duty officers was nearly truck by the vehicle before the vehicle struck another vehicle and fled the scene of the crash. Responding officers located the suspect vehicle stopped at the red light at Highway 146 and Interstate 10, in the south bound lanes. As officers activated their emergency lights to initiate a stop on the vehicle it fled south on Highway 146, continuing to drive erratically, swerving back and forth in its lane of travel. The driver continued driving erratically, stopping and starting repeatedly and waving his hands in the air and at one point even throwing his cell phone out of the car. Officers continued to pursue the vehicle, which eventually came to a stop in the on FM 3360, where he continued his erratic behavior and at one point exited his vehicle, refusing to follow the commands of the officers and aggressively approached the officers. Officers were ultimately forced to deploy a Taser, which rendered the driver incapacitated and allowed the officers to take him into custody. Officer subsequently located what is believed to be Ecstasy on Mr. Hillman person and synthetic marijuana in the vehicle. The driver identified as 35 year old Corey Hillman of Port Arthur, was transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked and charged with Felony Evading in  Motor Vehicle an Possession of a Controlled Substance through Chambers County. BPD had a 20-mile Pursuit on Saturday

Baytown Police had a lengthy 20-mile pursuit that started around the 200 block of South Highways 146, on October 3, 2020, around 1:19 P.M.,  and according to law enforcement, the suspect appeared to be a person with tattoos on his arms, who was driving a white sports bike motorcycle with no license plate. The pursuit was terminated around the 4200 block of East Sam Houston Tollway. No injuries were reported in this incident.

Tip leads to the Discovery of Deceased Infant Inside Baytown Hotel Room

On Tuesday, September 29th at approximately 8:00 a.m., Baytown Police received a Crime Stoppers tip indicating that there was a deceased infant inside a room at the Scottish Inn located in the 6800 block of Garth Road.

Patrol Officers responded to the scene and upon approaching the room they noticed the door was open and inside the room was a female who appeared to be armed with some type of long gun. Officers immediately began negotiating with the female in an attempt to have her exit the room, however, those efforts were unsuccessful. This prompted the
activation of the Baytown Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and Baytown SWAT Team, who arrived on the scene a short time later.

During the ensuing negotiations, the female attempted to further barricade and isolate herself inside the room and remained uncooperative and unwilling to exit the room. Despite their patience and best efforts, Negotiators were unable to convince the female to exit the room, therefore, at approximately 1:25 p.m., members of the Baytown Police Department SWAT team made entry into the room and took the female, a 31-year-old
Baytown woman, into custody. The female was subsequently transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation, where she remains.

Baytown Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Detectives responded to the scene and during a search of the hotel room they did in fact locate the lifeless body of an infant child. The body of the infant has been transported to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science in Houston where an autopsy will be performed to determine the gender of the infant, which was not readily apparent at the scene, as well as hopefully shed some light on the cause of this tragic death.

Homicide Detectives continue to investigate and remain resolute in their work to uncover all the facts and circumstances surrounding this tragic death of an innocent child. Once those facts are uncovered they will present them to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine the appropriate charges in this tragic case.

1 Dead after Shots Fired in the 5400 Block of Hazel Street

On September 26, 2020, at 8:42 pm., Baytown police officers were dispatched to several calls of shots fired in the 5400 Block of Hazel Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of (18) year old Davin Chatman who had been shot several times. Baytown EMS (emergency medical services) pronounced Chatman deceased due to the injuries he sustained from the gunfire.

During the investigation, Baytown Homicide Detectives learned the
defendant identified as (18) year old Keshawn Elam of Baytown and his friend, Davin Chatman were involved in a verbal argument which resulted in the shooting death of Chatman that occurred just outside of a residence in the 5400 block of Hazel Street. After the shooting, Mr. Elam drove off in Chatman’s black 2014 Nissan four-door which since then has been recovered unoccupied by the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office near College Station.

Charges of Murder have been filed through the Harris County District
Attorney’s Office on Elam. The whereabouts of Elam are unknown at this time and the Baytown Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance with any information on Elam which could lead to his arrest.

Baytown Police seeking public’s help in identifying Robbery suspects

On September 16th at 11:59 p.m., Baytown Police responded to a report of a robbery that had occurred at the Circle K located in the 3000 block of West Baker. Upon arrival, officers learned that the complainant had stopped at the store in his 2014 Toyota Tundra and walked inside. While the complainant was inside the store, a white or Hispanic male got out of a maroon SUV that was in the parking lot and got into the complainant’s truck and began to drive off. 

The complainant attempted to stop the suspect from driving off in his truck and while doing so the complainant was thrown to the ground by the moving truck and ran over,  suffering a serious head injury. The suspect(s) then fled the area in the complainant’s truck along with the SUV, which was being driven by a white or Hispanic female. The complainant was transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital where he remains in critical condition.  The Baytown Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects in this case. 4 Arrested in a Traffic Stop in the 7400 block of Garth Road

On September 15^th at 1:09 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 7400 block of Garth Road. Officers recognized the driver as 21 year old Dionte Manning of Baytown, who officers knew to have an outstanding felony warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Upon stopping the car, due to the nature of the warrant and the fact the vehicle was occupied by several individuals, officers conducted a high risk stop on the vehicle. Dionte was taken into custody and the three passengers were detained and checked for warrants. A male passenger, identified as 23 year old Zavier Wright, had an outstanding felony warrant out of Harris County for Unlawful restraint. During a subsequent search of the vehicle officers found two stolen handguns and a quantity of marijuana. As a result of these items being found in the vehicle the remaining two passengers, identified as 17 year old Angel Garcia and 25 year old Brittany Reynolds, were also placed under arrest and all subjects were transported to the Baytown Jail where they were booked on the following charges.
