City Council approved the South Lagoon Sludge Removal Contract between the Baytown Area Water Authority and Synagro of Texas-CDR

City Council approved the South Lagoon Sludge Removal Contract between the Baytown Area Water Authority ("BAWA") and Synagro of Texas-CDR, Inc., in the amount of $137,500.00.

During the water treatment process raw water goes through a sedimentation stage which aids in the removal of solid particles. The solid particles, known as sludge, are then collected and discharged to an onsite sludge lagoon. Over time the sludge lagoon accumulates and requires sludge removal to restore the storage capacity.  This project will remove all sludge and vegetation from the South Sludge lagoon restoring the lagoon to its original condition.

Advertising for the project commenced on June 7, 2020. Seven (7) contractors were contacted regarding this project. One bid and one "no bid" were received at the public opening on June 15, 2020, at 9:00 A.M.  Synagro has performed the work outlined on previous projects for BAWA with good results.  The contract duration is 20 work days from the Notice to Proceed to Substantial Completion.

The legislation creating the Baytown Area Water Authority requires that the City Council approve its agreements.  The BAWA Board approved this item at its meeting on July 15, 2020.

The money will come out of the operating budget.
