Stolen Tools Led into a Brief Wednesday Pursuit

BAYTOWN -  On July 22nd at 5:37 p.m., officers responded to a report of a theft in progress at the Home Depot in the 4900 block of Garth in which the suspects had stolen items and left in a silver Escalade. Upon arrival officers quickly located the suspect vehicle traveling through the parking lot and initiated a stop on the vehicle. As the officer exited his patrol vehicle to make contact with the suspects, the driver of the Escalade began to slowly drive away. The driver eventually made his way to Garth Road and turned south on Garth. The officer continued behind the suspect vehicle with his lights and siren on yet the driver of the Escalade refused to pull over, traveling at a slow speed. The suspect vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 4800 block of Garth at which time officers conducted a high-risk stop and the driver, identified as 56-year-old Esteban Reyes of Baytown, was taken into custody without incident. The other two occupants of the vehicle, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, were then removed from the vehicle and as offices attempted to place 15 year old in custody he began resisting the officer but was ultimately taken into custody.  During the investigation, it was learned that the trio had stolen two drills from the store, valued at approximately $300.00. As a result, all three suspects were transported to the Baytown Police Department where Mr. Reyes was booked into the jail and charged with class B Theft. The 16-year-old was also charged with class B Theft and the 15-year-old was charged with Resisting Arrest. The two juveniles were later released to an adult guardian.
