TOTAL CLOSURE OF I-610 WEST LOOP MAINLANES AT I-69 SOUTHWEST FREEWAY IN BOTH DIRECTIONS NEEDED FOR SEVERAL WEEKENDS

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will close all mainlanes of the I-610 West Loop at I-69 Southwest Freeway in both directions for multiple weekends starting the weekend of January 31 to hang bridge beams and other related work for a new connector ramp.

Starting Friday, Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. until Monday, Feb. 3 at 5 a.m.crews will close all I-610 West Loop northbound and southbound mainlanes at I-69 Southwest Freeway. Crews will again close the I-610 West Loop mainlanes at I-69 Southwest Freeway in both directions on the weekends of Feb. 7 through Feb. 10, Feb. 14 through Feb. 17, and Feb. 21 through Feb. 24.

Crews will continue work on the I-610 West Loop northbound connector ramp to I-69 Southwest Freeway southbound as part of the I-610/I-69 interchange project. Motorists traveling northbound on I-610 West Loop northbound will detour to I-610 frontage road to re-enter the mainlanes of I-610 northbound. Motorists traveling southbound on I-610 West Loop will detour to I-69 southbound, exit at Chimney Rock, U-turn at Chimney Rock to reach the I-69 northbound mainlanes and take the direct connector from I-69 northbound to I-610 southbound.

It is recommended that motorists seek an alternate route during the time of these closures.

The I-610/ I-69 interchange is a major connection point of two of the most congested highways in the state of Texas. The $259 million project will significantly enhance safety and improve mobility by widening the connector ramps to two lanes, increasing sight distances and providing remedies to eliminate weaving.

The project has incentives and disincentives to encourage the contractor to complete various phases sooner than anticipated.

Lynchburg Ferry to Close for Major Improvements Starting February 25th to Late 2020

HOUSTON, Texas – The Lynchburg Ferry will be closed starting Tuesday, February 25th until late 2020 for necessary improvements to preserve the longevity of its operations. During this closure, crews will be reconstructing the approaches and transfer ramps that go onto and off the Lynchburg Ferry Boats. The $6 million project is a joint venture between Harris County Precinct 2 and the Texas Department of Transportation, who is overseeing the construction of the project. Drivers are reminded to use alternate routes during the closure. 

Alternate routes include: Traffic heading northbound:• (EZ Tag Only) Use SH-225 West to Sam Houston Tollway North back to I-10 East• Use SH-225 East to SH-146 North to Spur 330 North back to I-10 Traffic heading southbound:• (EZ Tag Only) Use I-10 West to Sam Houston Tollway South back to SH-225 East• Use I-10 East to Spur 330 South to SH-146 South back to SH-225 West.

Now some area residents are complaining on Harris County Pct 2 Facebook. Someone said; "why so long" and another person said; "Cut everyone off again." However, I-10 and other interstates or highways are open to and from Houston. Construction is important for improvements and the future for Harris County.
