Hernandez charged with Evading Arrest or Detention, which was upgraded to a felony

On March 16th at 12:12 p.m., officers responded to a report of a theft at the Home Depot in the 4900 block of Garth Road. Upon arrival in the area, officers spotted the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Robert Hernandez of Baytown, running from the store. Despite several commands from the officers to stop, Robert continued to flee from the officers, running north behind the shopping center in the 5000 block of Garth and eventually into a wooded area behind the businesses. As officers continued to pursue Richard, he eventually became winded and surrendered to officers.  Robert was transported to the Baytown Jail where he was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention, which was upgraded to a felony based on his previous convictions for the same offense. Home Depot was able to recover the assorted merchandise, which had a value of approximately $550.00.
