On April 12th at 10:28 p.m., officers attempted to stop a red Chevrolet Camaro in the 1200 block of West Main as it was driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle refused to stop and led officers on a chase, eventually turning north on Lee Drive. As the suspect vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed, it was unable to safely negotiate the railroad tracks on Lee Drive, causing the suspect vehicle to crash into a tree near the intersection of Denby and Lee, causing major front end damage to the vehicle and deploying the driver side airbag. As officers arrived at the scene they took the driver, identified as 18 year old Edgar Rodriguez, into custody. Ironically when asked why he ran from the police, Rodriguez advised he was trying to get home so he wouldn’t get in trouble. Rodriguez was subsequently transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked on charges of Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle
