Harris County DA Office accepted charges against Mata

On May 29^th at 5:12 p.m., officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge Hotel located in the 300 block of South Alexander. Upon contacting the occupant of the vehicle, identified as Mariano Mata of Baytown, officers noticed alcohol on his breath and an open container of beer in the center console. The officer ultimately obtained consent to search the vehicle and as he removed Mr. Mata from the vehicle, he found what was believed to be cocaine stuffed in Mr. Mata’s pants. As the officer attempted to place Mr. Mata under arrest Mr. Mata resisted by  pulling away from the officer and fleeing on foot. Officers pursued Mr. Mata through the back parking lot and over the fence that surrounds the hotel. Additional officers were called to the scene and they were able to locate Mr. Mata hiding in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex, where he was taken into custody. Mr. Mata was subsequently transported to the Baytown Jail where he was charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
