1 Dead in the Motorcycle Accident and 1 driver Charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated

BAYTOWN, TEXAS - On July 1st at 10:20 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle major accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck at the intersection of West Baker Road and Hemlock Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered the motorcyclist, identified as 25-year-old Bernard Brown of Baytown, unconscious and unresponsive and was subsequently pronounced deceased by EMS. Officers also found that the other vehicle involved was a Chevrolet pickup occupied by two people, 40-year-old Eleasar Moreno of Baytown who was the driver, and a 15-year-old female passenger, neither of who appeared to be injured. During the course of the investigation, officers were able to determine that the motorcycle was traveling west in the 4400 block of West Baker while the Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on West Baker.  Mr. Moreno attempted to turn northbound onto Hemlock from West Baker Road, effectively turning in front of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to strike the truck. Officers uncovered evidence at the scene that led them to believe that Mr. Moreno was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Mr. Moreno was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Baytown Jail where he was charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Those charges could be amended once the Baytown Police Accident Reconstruction Team and the District Attorney’s Office’s Vehicular Assault Team complete their investigation into the crash.
