On April 23rd at 4:12 p.m., officers responded to a suspicious person in the 100 block of Travis. Caller indicated an Hispanic male was knocking on doors asking for money. Officers would locate the subject in the parking lot of the Oasis Convenience Store at Lee and Hwy 146. When officers contacted the subject he identified himself by name and denied being the one officers were looking for, although he matched the description, both physical and clothing, of the suspect. As officers were conducting a computer check of the suspect he began to walk away. Officers gave the suspect orders to stop, however he ignored these orders and attempted to flee on foot. The officers chased after the suspect, eventually taking him to the ground where a struggle ensued as officers attempted to handcuff the suspect. Officers would ultimately deploy their department issued Taser in an attempt to immobilize the suspect, however these attempts were ineffective. Ultimately officer were able to get the suspect in custody at which time they learned he had given a fictitious name to the officers initially. The suspect was identified as 51 year old Enrique Navar of Baytown and was found to have an outstanding Felony warrant out of Harris County for Evading Arrest. Enrique was transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked on the outstanding warrant as well as two new charges of Felony Evading and Interfering with Public Duties.
