A disturbance that turned ugly in the 3100 block of Garth

On May 21st at 11:36 p.m., officers responded to the Stripes located in the 3100 block of Garth in reference to a disturbance in which a black male with dreadlocks had threatened the clerk and was believed to be driving an older model car. Upon arriving in the area officers located a vehicle and suspect matching the description given at the Oasis just down the street from the Stripes. Officers went into the Oasis, where the suspect was standing at the counter, when officers contacted the male, later identified as 24 year old Cornell Tardy, he became increasingly uncooperative and as officers escorted him out of the store and attempted to handcuff him, he pulled away from the officers and at one point grabs the officer attempting to detain him and slams him to the ground, which caused the officer to strike his head on the concrete. Other officers then took Mr. Tardy to the ground and were able to get him into custody. During this, a female, later identified as 22 year old Warrenisha Fontenot, began shouting and cursing at the officers and was interfering with the officers trying to tend to the injured officer as well as the ambulance’s ability to get into the parking lot of the business. After being told several times to stay back and let the ambulance through and her not complying, officers attempted to escort her away from the scene. Ms. Fontenot instead pulled away from the officers and continued screaming and cursing. Offices eventually placed Ms. Fontenot under arrest as well. Both  Mr. Tardy  and Ms. Fontenot were ultimately transported to the Baytown Jail where Mr. Tardy continued to be uncooperative, shouting obscenities and threatening EMS personnel who were trying to treat an abrasion he sustained during the incident. The officer was transported to the Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital where he was treated for a concussion and released.  Mr. Tardy was charged with Felony Assault of a Peace Officer through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office while Ms. Fontenot was charged with Interfering with Public Duties.
